So...what do you do?

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

Moving to a new city, new neighborhood, with new people has been wonderful.  We love it here in our new house.  It's been one month and the transformation of remodeling is ridiculous...more to come on that.  But, meeting so many new people, you get the question "So, what do you do, Laura?"  It is so hard to explain what it is that I do, I end up ranting off for longer than I should!  It usually ends up something like this: I'm an artist, no well really more of a designer, yeah....I license my artwork for products....I make them in the computer or draw or paint them....

I usually end up saying I make patterns....but it's so much more than that!  Well, since I have been getting questions about the licensing side of my work, I wanted to share a few of my favorite patterns.  I have been so grateful with the people that I have worked with I am looking forward to sharing some exciting news about new products in the next few days!  WhooHOO!  These are a small handful of the designs I have.

New Ikat Painting

Friday, July 27, 2012

Pushing forward with my paintings, I finished up a new one last night.  It's 24x36 on canvas with acrylic paint and has different hues of vivid teal, pink, lavender, royal blue, metallic gold, orange and raspberry red-pink.  It really pops in the natural light and I am pleased as punch with the outcome.  Already started another, I am going to give yellow a try as the back ground color in the next painting.  I love figuring out interesting color palettes...they just sort of evolve as I paint!  What do you think of these crazy paintings?

**I am obviously not a great photographer...working on that!  My little digital camera doesn't represent the real colors that well...maybe I have it on a strange setting?  These pictures are really bright red when in fact it's more orange, deep raspberry and touches of hot pink...sorry if I am am blinding you!  The pictures don't do justice!

My Art on Society 6

I love Chicago!

Pink Abstract
I am hearing and seeing so many artists heading over to Society 6.  It's a great place to get unique artwork, prints and other products while supporting artists.  You can find some pretty interesting stuff on Society 6, I think it's a little more hipper and trendy than other artist profit websites.  These are 3 pieces I really love and currently have for sale.  Jump over to the shop here and check out the different sizes...you can get a print for $23.00!  Let me know what you think!

What I am working on...

Monday, July 23, 2012

I wanted to share a few new pieces of artwork.  The top is acrylic Ikat pattern on canvas and I can't wait to show all the other patterns and colors I have in progress!  I also have several other Glitter Ombre Love prints in a variety of colors that I will be sharing soon.  Plus, other art prints that I haven't posted about yet. All the paintings and prints will be available at some point...I am still trying to wrap my head around an online store and all the details.  I also will have a section where you can ask about commission paintings, if there is a color palette you would like I would be happy to make it.

I'm sensing a theme here...

The walls are still drying as we speak!  This beautiful pool, crystal sea blue, perfect mix of aqua and teal is all up in my bedroom!  I love it and now I need some great ideas for coral-y orange accents and bedding as well.  The upholstered white headboard with nailhead trim is on the DIY list and WILL get done at some point!  Does anyone have any great suggestions for curtains that go with my pool blue and coral-y colors...I am thinking something soft and gray....off to search on Pinterest now....any links or comments would be greatly appreciated:)

About Me

Friday, July 13, 2012

I've had this blog for a long time now and have been very shy about who I am, on a personal level....obviously my name is Laura Dro...it's everywhere on the blog!  Not sure why I have held back, I guess it feels kinda strange to me to write about myself.  So, I did what I am more comfortable with.  I put together a few pictures that I feel describe me in someway.  Think of it as a digital-self- portrait-collage!
I had every art set growing up, but my most memorable one was the Polyvore where you could be a fashion designer.  I am an earring girl and a sucker for super colorful oversized ones.  I wish I had more fun necklaces, but I can't seem to get past the earrings.  Kate Spade is my favorite designer, artist and it's super inspiring to see what she has done with her business.  The quote on the top right makes me smile and keeps me motivated to do what I love.  I secretly wish my husband would take up photography and create a super romantic Bokeh photograph just for me...preferable with hearts in it.

Have a great weekend!

Sadie + Stella feature

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

If you haven't heard of Lindsay from Sadie + Stella, you have to check out her work!  I am scoring the internet for new ideas, furniture, color combos and other fun ideas to fill this new house.  I recently went from 1,000 sq ft condo in Chicago to a giant 3,000 sq ft home.  My husband and I have started a new adventure in Arkansas and I love my new house.  We are redoing it from head to toe!  New hardwood, new kitchen, new paint, new lighting...the list keeps going.  Thankfully we don't have to knock down any walls because this house has great bones...just outdated.  So, I am so inspired by Lindsays e-designs and it is exactly the style that I would love to fill my home with!  Check out her blog here and her design services here and I'm sure love her style as well!

New Work!

Monday, July 9, 2012

I have been working away on more art prints.  I wanted to make a series of colorful typography artwork and I am really attracted the trendy ombre color palettes.  So...here is what I have made so far!  I can't wait to get my samples and photograph them.  What do you think of them so far?  Any color suggestions you would like to see?

My favorites from Ada & Darcy

Thursday, July 5, 2012

It's no secret that I love everything from Ada & Darcy, a boutique interiors and housewares store.  I have talked about it many times and love Kellie's blog.  She posts the most beautiful, bright and colorful photos on her blog and most of the products are from her own store!  Check out what she has here, you won't be able to stop looking!  Since I have the redecorating bug, I put together a few of my favorite things in the colors that I seem to be attracted to these days.  Between the ceramic stool, the Orange Moroccan pouffe, Chevron pillows, and my favorite the Bungalow Chair in yellow, you will immediately be a fan of Ada and Darcy!
